Another Year, Another Attempt
Excuses, Excuses, Motivation
I just don't get around to even think about attempting to scribble anything.
Gaming became Club 1830 and rpg stuff just wasn't on my mind.
It's coming back to me and maybe, just maybe I'll get some momentum.
What's Up?
All sorts of ideas are floating in the 'fantasy' rpg space of my mind. I feel that resolutions are solidifying.
RuneQuest is still interesting. I've not been keeping up with the little adventure modules, but I'm really keen to see more of the Cults of RuneQuest as they arrive. I know that Chaosium are having a bit of a rule book revision but I'm not too interested in that.
My investigations around C&S brought me the HarnMaster. I was simply curious as to how they handled metal armour and then got more drawn into the system. I should have plenty to type on this in the near future. Suffice to say that the edition I investigated seems to solve a lot of issues I have with the 'recent' C&S editions. While some C&S publications (esp. 3rd Edition Bestiary) will remain good brain food, I can't see any reason to continue to attempt to 'mend' C&S.
I've been aware of HarnMaster for a long time but had never looked at it seriously. A little research indicated that the original mastermind, Robin Crosby, parted company with his publisher, Columbia, a few editions back and that lead to a bifurcation in the rules lineage.
I plumped for Robin's line, published by Kelestia Productions (KP), for a couple of reasons. They have a newer ruleset (HarnMaster: Roleplaying in the world of Kethira or HMK for short) and seem to be more active in terms of developing new products and as an active online presence. It was also cheaper to buy the HMK rulebook in hardback than to gather together what may or may not have been useful from Columbia's pdf offerings (HM3).
As an outsider, my impression is that HMK has a wider view of Kethira , the world in which the isle of Harn is placed but HM3 has a larger user base and certainly a larger range of official and fanon material around Harn itself and nearby locations. I'm more than happy with the extension of scope.
[More on that soon, if I can keep any sense of momentum].
